Site Audit: On-demand Checks for “Not Secure” Pages
January 24, 2017
We at SEMrush know very well how important your website’s security is. That’s why we’ve expanded the Site Audit tool with a new check – Non-secure Pages, which is crucial in light of the recent Google Chrome 56 update.
WHAT IS THIS UPDATE ABOUT AND WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT?
Google Chrome has started warning users about the dangers of submitting their passwords on HTTP pages by labeling such pages as “non-secure” in order to prevent intruders from using or modifying their personal information.
It is recommended that you protect your site with HTTPS if it handles users’ passwords, payments or other private information.
If your site still uses HTTP, the “non-secure” warning that will appear in the address bar might affect user behavior in a very negative way, as users will quickly leave a website that is marked as non-secure, impacting your bounce rate.
WHERE CAN THE NON-SECURE PAGE CHECK BE FOUND?
To check your webpage’s encryption, be sure that you have at least one active project or create a new one. Access the Site Audit tool of your project and select the Issues tab. You will find the Errors list, at the end of which you may view the number of non-secure pages your site contains and get the corresponding URLs.
If you’re faced with this error, you should move your HTTP webpages that contain a password field to HTTPS.
Let’s make the Web more secure together! Please leave your feedback or share your opinion with us atsite-audit-feedback@semrush.com, and stay tuned! Thank you for making SEMrush better!
